Radar improved extremely in the past years. You can now have elevation measurement, which can tell you information about the height of the objects. Not only that, but now radar already reached the point in which you have a very high number of detections each frame (I am talking about low thousands), meaning in very near future you will be able to use the image processing algorithms and make lidar obsolete.
