Back before Elon's heel-turn psycho drug-addled ahole character arc, he was one of the main voices arguing against AI and against humans getting into an arms race to be the first to develop ASI, which is what we're currently doing with the largest, most powerful companies on earth. In his first podcast with Rogan, circa 2016, he talks about going to see Obama multiple times sounding the alarm on AI and how it has a very good chance of destroying humanity.
Now, almost a decade later, I guess he's resigned to it definitely happening, being too late to stop it so he might as well try and get a piece of the pie in the meantime.
