Just because a tool can be used by a small subset of bad actors does not make it bad. Eventually a feed back loop will be established that will overwrite the original data set. This is the horse fighting against the automobile.
That all being said, I think using nightshade is a perfectly reasonable response.
My example of AI is in music. Just like in art, you are playing to role of a producer and not an artist. The AI takes the role of the "artist." The ai is not as skilled or able to produce the same quality, it's all just "good enough." If the ai COULD produce the same level... then we need to ask what art is on a more fundamental level.
By all means, fight back. I think you will find those that find a way to work with the "tech bros" will fair better in the end.
