This may turn out to be another classic example of Jevon's paradox; as technological progress makes a resource cheaper or more productive, a dramatic increase in demand and usage follows, as for example the increased productivity, reduced costs, and advancing technology open the floodgates to opportunities everywhere which were previously infeasible or unthought of. Headline layoffs are mostly companies forced to downsize anyway using AI as a smokescreen for the companies' failures, and any corporation which stops training junior devs now obviously won't be able to compete in the future.
