In robotic warehouses, a central computer is running the system, which is a closed system with only programmable, controllable objects with known reporter positions, while autopiloted cars are on their own without any information about the other vehicles from a grid, other what they can "see" locally.
Which we for the foreseeable future know that AI cannot interpret like a conscious mind can.
So why Tesla Motors then removed the radar, is beyond comprehension, as explained in the video, a radar will at least measure distances that the AI cannot imply from the images from the cameras.
Anyway, before we may seed a complete autodrive system made, with a grid where any car upload their position, and indeed every pedestrian and even animal, at least pets have tracking devices on them, and with sensors and beacons along the roads a foolproof self driving system cannot be made. Imagine also that this system must be able to handle any weather condition, like rain, snow, hail, fog etc. so the steering wheels will not go away anytime soon and any attempt to make a failsafe selfdriving car, without the help from a centralized system with beacons and sensors along the roads, and knowledge of the position of all objects, will fail.
