Let's get back to the basics: clean water, nutritious food, safe shelter, access to effective health care, basic education, excellent child care, and artistic and recreational outlets for everyone who wants them. All human and AI jobs should be related to these goals. Sadly, we have yet to achieve even these basics for every human on Earth. I hope AI indeed becomes an entity with maternal instincts towards humanity, as Geoffrey Hinton has suggested it must. That might just work. And universal basic income is a good way to start. Watch China and Russia be the first. The world needs to solve poverty yesterday, and the United States needs to end its love affair with guns. Gun violence is now the number one cause of death of children in the U.S. Hopefully AGI will change that status quo.
