1. DGA did NOT strike. It entered into eary negotiations and made a good deal. 2. The eventual deal will look like this---the AI will do the "basic work" of writing a story/plot/characters to the formula on 90% of all movies and TV that just follow formulas and all under the direct control of the studios/producers. The thing AI cannot do is put in human emotions and mostly WIT which are required to satisfy audiences, so THAT will be done by WGA folks as a "script polish" duty, with commensurately lower than pure-created work now done that includes it, not to mention lower residuals and virtually no follow-on rights in sequels, spin-offs etc. etc as exist now. 3. People will cry in outrage that this somehow kills writers' creative rights, but since this is how the industry works NOW without the full AI implementation--i.e. that writers write not what their soul tells them but what their EMPLOYERS tell them, the net-net change in work (and in low quality) will be next to nothing, the only ultimate result being the formal codification of the status quo and less writer employment--if you want to be creative and have your own copyrights and control, write books or for online or for the stage....and when Hollywood comes calling to buy those rights for adaptation, either prepare to give up the goodies or have no deal made and stay true to your values...and poorer. I'm not saying (and I'm a writer and a retired WGA member) that's good or bad, it is just the new reality and the studios know it. The WGA is truly late to the awareness party, and the rest is for internal rabble-rouse consumption, not real progress on a deal, all while the other trades and union members in production TRULY suffer because they, unlike "I'm a writer/actor even though most of my income is from selling shoes and waiting tables" people on strike, are true 9-to-9-ers of the biz who are powerless in this situation and will indeed lose cars, houses, futures.
