What's funny is that this person is actually good at the digital coloring process. Aside from lying, I don't really think what they did is wrong. I think AI is best used as a tool for artists if it's going to exist, and it WILL exist and grow. It will compete with us. This is an unavoidable reality. If we're going to exist with it, we're going to have stop stigmatizing it in our creative process. Because at its best, it's going to be incredibly hard to compete with it without using it ourselves. On top of that, I'd much rather have someone with technical and creative skill use AI in their process than have someone without any talent claim art as their own after generating it. This artist likely has the skill to do what they did without tracing, the AI art only sped up the process. If we're stigmatizing them for tracing AI works, then we're kind of getting into the question of "is using a reference bad?" Because they could have done it without AI, and no one really got hurt from them doing this. They were just dishonest about the process, and understandably so, because artists have a hate boner for AI. But the hate is unnecessary here.
