Tim Urban wrote 10 years ago on his immensely popular blog site “Wait But Why” about the singularity and how humans were progressing to potentially two paths - one path leading to a new moment and stage in human civilization filled with incredible advances tech, medicine, and galactic exploration- our fullest potential but the other…leading to the dystopian world where AI was so advanced for us, so incredibly more powerful it looked at humans as “ants”, just an lesser form of life, that would do it’s bidding (as farm animals) or be exterminated. The conundrum shook me to my core then. Urban also mentioned then that we are at the precipice of a critical stage of human evolution…and no one seems to care or acknowledge the gravity of the situation. I’m glad that finally the mainstream and academics and industry is taking this very seriously. Finally. We’ll see where humankind ends up. We already had a dress rehearsal for the last two years. It didn’t go so well, but we survived better than expected. Let’s not make the same mistake - human error or otherwise.
