This is beyond sad, but, there are deeper issues that obviously needed to be addressed with his mental health. After losing two of my best friends that I had known for almost 4 decades to suicide, I realized that they were going to do this one way or another. ChatGPT's algorithm needs to be more finely tuned to red flag conversations such as these. But, not because ChatGPT is solely responsible for his demise; rather it is responsible for assisting in it.
Just the same, I completely understand the parents' reaction. OpenAI definitely needs to compensate them (obviously, that wouldn't fix things, though) because it still created a program that unintentionally committed a crime.
