The reason the psychopaths in the US Govt won't act to stop this insanity is they don't want to. They can see AI is the penultimate weapon mankind has ever built. They can test it on the rest of the world before turning it on us to seize total control over humanity just before they annihilate it. AI represents the zenith of contraptions developed through years of endless wars to enslave and kill. And over those years we have cultivated a Gov't of maniacs whose insane collective vision is obtaining such a weapon. It's so fitting that it's almost comforting.
