I have made the mistake of using AI as a "reference" for backgrounds and architecture because I struggle with those things. I know, why not I look at photos? That would make more sense, but I needed a jumping off point for thumbnails to a comic I was working on with a friend and I figured I could fix where an AI photo makes mistakes or something. I didn't realize that I was in the wrong to do this. And I was doing this traditionally, pencil to paper and using my cellphone to look at references. I have seen artists take an AI character design and make it better.
