My note as a disabled artist (chronic pain / autism [[does that count in this ??? Idk ]] / chronically gay ) is that when people talk about art accessibility they’re talking about the ability to go to museums/different countries/meet artists. Yknow. Like all the rich ppl who can randomly jump to other countries to see Rome in person. Or who save up to go on vacation. They do exist. Now, the last time I caught a lung infection I was in bed for three months and completely lost my ability to do Job. So naturally, now the idea of getting on a plane with someone who has Covid is one that keeps me up at night. I live in a different country than my family and haven’t seen them since the initial outbreak because most people view Covid as ‘over’. (It’s not.) for me - I’ll probably never get to travel to see the art that other people can. But like- some tourists grainy photo is still going to be better than the ai generator if the generator is spitting out melted misprints. Like yes- the niche angle of some college kids photo may affect my ability to appreciate the great art. But the messed up ai art is going to change my whole perception of the art and what it was trying to convey. It becomes a style change and not just a bad photo / review / etc. in the end both are lose lose. The people who preach should be focusing on ways to Actually make the art world accessible, because then at least we know where the money and time are going into. Like - accessibility has always been the afterthought or excuse. Not the goal. That’s where the problem is for me. My injury doesn’t get to be your b grade defense. Either help or get out of the way of what my constant right now actual physical experience of this world is.
