One ‘positive” outcome of this and all the next waves of deepfake, is that at some point having these sort of pictures online won’t really mean anything. Eventually, deepfaking will become very available for everyone to do at their pc or smartphone. Imo the best thing to do is to make people understand that having naked pictures, specially fake naked pictures, of them online is not the end of the world. There isn’t anything else we can do, we will simply need to get used to the idea that someone might have naked pictures of us lol People saying we should regulate AI or have harsher punishment don’t really understand how this works lol it’s not Open AI who’s developing deepfake technology, it’s regular people, many many regular people in fact, who do it anonymously. Most of this tech is open source (no one owns it, it’s made by and for the community) and making it just go away is impossible. I mean, there are literally CP websites with hundreds of thousands of monthly visits, that not even the US government is able to put down. And I think we can all agree that CP is a much bigger concern for virtually everyone (specially governments) than some deepfakes (in the first there’s actual sexual abuse and rape of young kids, usually linked with kidnappings, human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Deepfakes are just that, fake images. If we as a society didn’t take them so seriously there really wouldn’t be a problem (current issues usually involve self-harming and that kind of stuff due to the psychological effects of having those images spread)
