While this interview bought up many good critique of AI companies, like use of water, Sam Altman, but she just lost me in many other points. Like, Trump wants to nationalize companies eventually? What the heck is she talking about. That's stage 3 TDS talking 😅 The idea of nationalize companies in US sounds more like a Demoncrats or communist idea, definitely not Trump and conservatives.
Also, as a software engineer, as much as I dislike OpenAI, I must say the conspiracy theory why Open AI didn't train with a more efficient approach is totally wrong. Open AI is not the only player in the fields. Take video generations for example, there are countless players. Be it Veo from Google, Higgsfield, Midjourney, Hailuo from China... so and so on. Training models like those indeed take an insane amount of data. If there's a more efficient way to do it, there are so many compeitions in the market, someone will use the more efficient and more performative way to do it. I don't understand why she sounds like the whole AI industry work together to use brute force approach just because they want to fool people to believe it's the only way. That's very misleading statement I must say. The DeepSeek team spent crazy amount of effort in optimizing their training because they had to. GPUs are harder to get in China. For OpenAI, they don't care because the system is already running that way, captial is cheap here, they don't need to grind it to squeeze the performance. For OpenAI, the human resource is more expensive than hardware and computing expenses.
Anyway, some good critiques, but overall really bad biased takes on the AI industry. While she said that she writes truth, but I feel it's more like Activist journalism 👎
