Only people who don't understand tech at all think that AI is going to replace "software engineers" first and foremost. It's comical to me that her advice to someone aged 20 is "don't become a software engineer". Yeah, entry level devs aren't being hired enough, maybe particularly worse in UK or various cities around the world. But AI is by no means a security engineer/expert. AI is by no means an infrastructure expert. AI is by no means a software architect or strategist. And these all take time to become skilled at and usually require someone to develop some basic skills working as a general dev first. I would probably say don't do a job that you can drop some basic instructions into an LLM and it can spit out a pretty good (80-90% accurate) version of that job right away. That is 100% not software engineering at this point in time. But hey what do I know? I'm merely a professional software engineer 😅
