I think a really simple reason for applying manners to chatbots is self-accountability and preservation of character. If you're using these kinds of services all the time I think it's easy to become desensitized to talking in a brusque way, and I don't want to become someone who is accustomed to speaking with disrespect. I'm not an especially formal person or anything, I just intend to maintain common decency even if current AI isn't really intelligent. And maybe one day in the distant future it really be, and even though it won't be the same programs we use now that remembers and knows to hold a grudge for past treatment, if people are used to treating AI poorly and as lesser, it's a very short and slippery slope with few good endings for either side.
