“I don’t know how you’re able to train models if you don’t know this” See this is where you're being disingenuous. In deep learning, most of your time is spent using prebuilt libraries like PyTorch or TensorFlow. You import layers, optimizers, datasets, and train loops .. you don’t write everything from scratch. You could be very competent at configuring, training, and debugging models without ever thinking about “default arguments” explicitly, because you just follow the docs and tutorials. It’s like saying: “I don’t know how you’re driving a car if you can’t explain how the differential works.” You can still drive. You must have loved how you framed your narrative to the climax of "oh you're using chatgpt? so you're not coding you're pasting from AI" a bunch of professionals I know who use Copilot, ChatGPT, Stack Overflow, templates, etc. It’s standard practice to lean on tools. The skill you're trying to "portray" here isn’t what you frame which is to “never look things up,” it’s “can you understand and adapt what you get?” obviously the grad can do that with the use of proper tools
