Giving personhood to AI is like giving personhood to a handheld calculator. We might give individual physical robots special statuses like "police officer" the same way we do K-9s, but the rest of the physical robots will be like family pets, only having limited protections and accountability and short lifespans due to obsolescence and wear and tear.
The difference between us and them is they don't have feelings and even if they did, they'll never be humans, and our instinctual first priority as humans is the survival and protection of the human species. We slaughter animals with feelings en masses to sustain ourselves. AI models may act like they have feelings the same way we do because they're trained on human discourse, but we know they're only mimicking, as they don't have the neurotransmitters we do that allow us to have feelings.
