-Does AI have a use? Sure, it allows people with no artistic capacity to get quick images to be their digital avatar or their DnD character, and it allows people with funny ideas and no talent for implementing them to meme.
-Is it the future? Probably, at some point all the stuff we as a species will want to do will be mostly stuff only a machine can reasonably do, and there are more than a few instances where entirely autonomous independent decision-making will be important to those tasks.
-Is that future the high-pressure torrent of AI sludge we're seeing called "entertainment" and "art" now? ...I get that modern writing is so bad its probably costing AI-training decades of work, but no. We'll get there (probably), but I have serious doubts that what we're seeing now is anything more than just an early low-quality iteration of something much better we'll have in the future.
