as a SW developer who used to be interested in ML and AI topics, I honestly feel we are progressing towards a second AI winter rather than an AI apocalypse. All AI feels so clumsy right now. AI companies seem to have depleted all information to train on already, the models seems to scale poorly and use way too many resources (bigger and bigger and more power hungry data centers).. They are overpromising and under delivering, thats what caused the last AI winter.... I use LLMs daily and they hallucinate like a madman on drugs, even for the paid subscriptions.. sure they can write some code for something that has already been solved millions of time because thats what is part of its training data already! Ask it to work on something novel big and complex and the whole thing falls apart.. For more AI clown circus, see googles latest so called AI phones.. man its dumb.. Its all fearmongering when people talk about AI these days..
