Milton Friedman visited ex Soviet countries shortly after the USSRs collapse to help educate them how to actually allow an economy to function. He visited a construction project with workers everywhere digging with shovels and asked why they were not using machines, excavators, trucks, etc and was informed that "this is a job creation project!" Famously, he asked tongue in cheek, "instead of shovels, why not use spoons?" We are at a shovels vs spoons vs machines moment with AI in the world and the luddites are very confused about it all.
