I think the "lower cost to entry" argument is comparing getting something from AI that "does the trick" compared to hiring someone and get exactly what you need, not doing it yourself.
As a game developer I Google (or now AI generate, but for free, I will not pay for that s**t) portrait images and backgrounds to have some placeholder art when doing prototyping, and if I ever get out of prototyping stage and ready to release a game I will happily pay someone to make the art I am to unskilled to create myself.
Likewise the traditional art to digital is not like you gain superpowers, sure there are some nice features like layers, fill tools and the alike that help you test out stuff without having to scrap a failed attempt and start over from scratch. But in the end it is your same skills or in my case, lack of skills that shapes the outcome.
When it come to AI you just move some words around to try and get what you want (minimum skill needed, maybe you don't even need to spell correctly?).
The thing I'm looking forward to use AI for is when you have 180 frames of a video you need to individually mask, and you can just mask the first and/or the last and then have AI fill in the in between, saving you a lot of time and headache. Because that is not creative work, it's not fun, it just annoying to have to deal with.
So keep poisoning that art! ^_^
