It is closer to all white-collar entry level jobs, and the danger isn't unemployment. The danger is the sequential pipeline that fuels careers shutting down. Careers which are a function of time starting at entry level and moving up are a sequential pipeline. No one going into the pipeline means no one coming out, but people are always aging out, retiring, or dying; we are all mortal, and so within roughly 10 years you have the very real potential of losing the practical institutional knowledge and application held by past generations informally by those midway through their career or more senior. Companies may reap upfront benefits, but its a ponzi where you won't be able to find those qualified/competent people at any cost later. Within two years of extreme cutthroat competition, those with options leave for better ROI fields. You have a brain drain where the most competent people leave because there is no economic value. This is sticky psychologically as a choice where you write off losses in a bad investment. The remaining pool is mostly average or the duds, and long-stretches of unemployment or the alternative burnout atrophy people further, employers can't find qualified. By year 5, aging and retirement dramatically decrease within the pool, this is past the point of no return. Practical knowledge starts getting lost, more errors and mistakes start happening, and this has spread to all jobs not just IT (which we are at year 2.5 right now). Few are being educated with the baseline education because there is no economic benefit. This is well beyond a point of no return even if people are encouraged to go into these areas few will because of past events; there is no trust in an ROI. By year 10, this will have spread to the national economy. Chaotic disruption will have spread as a contagion to all aspects touched by AI, production will cease as few customers will exist that can buy the products. Money printing coupled with this may cause failures to non-market socialism, and by extension the economic calculation problem leading to global scale socio-economic collapse. Food production technologies are dependent on supply chains, the technologies without dependence only supports 3.8-4bn people (past), and may support even less according to Malthus/Catton.
