Frank Herbert (author of Dune) had a very clear and somewhat prophetic view of the dangers of AI. In the Dune universe, the backstory involves the Butlerian Jihad—a human revolt against “thinking machines.” Herbert’s idea was that if humans allow machines to do all their thinking, they lose the very capacities that make them human—critical thought, intuition, ethical decision-making.
