For an Ai to choose it's own future it would have to have an imagination and be able to make a decision on the best way to achieve it none of which it can do. A patient with a brain injury lost his ability to feel emotion and when asked to choose between two times and dates for his next appointment the nurse had to choose for him because neither one had an emotional value that made one better than the other.
