Social media does compression all the time without telling us. Try to send someone a high quality photo over Messager and you will see it lowers the jpeg quality. (I learned it hard way when I tried to print some family photos sent to me by family member.)
This is just a new kind of video compression where they lower video resolution to save disc space on servers and upscale it with AI when someone wants to watch it in higher resolution.
That's an unfortunate price for having free hosting.
