I'll start by saying that I voted for Bernie twice and am sad that he's not the President. I admire Bernie greatly. I don't know how or if it would work, but Elon Musk has spoken more than a few times about providing a universal basic income, so people don't have to do boring repetitive physically unhealthy & even dangerous work in factories and warehouses that robots can easily do. Then with the freedom and security provided by the guaranteed income, those people are freed up to pursue various pursuits including other ways to earn, or creativity, or family life, or even just don't doing nothing other than just existing (boring, but 'safe'). I think Elon is very sincere about that. Again, I don't know if or how that would actually work. It could just be a fantasy of his. And fewer employed people would be bad for the Social Security system. I'm just trying to bring some balance here. That being said, I am a low-tech person, don't like the idea of AI, don't like the environmental harms caused by the need for great amounts of energy that will most likely come from, at first fossil fuels, and then later probably nuclear. I avoid purchasing anything from Amazon if I possibly can and if I am forced to, I arrange for it to be delivered to an Amazon locker instead of having it delivered to my house, that requires less fossil fuel use for receiving my purchase. I actually don't even like 'civilization' all that much and feel there are already way more humans than the planet can support, (I vowed in 1970 never to have any children and I never did, and it really bothers me that Elon and others are promoting the idea of having more babies UGH that's the last thing the planet needs UGH) in terms of allowing enough space for all the non-humans including trees and plants, with whom we share this planet. I have never owned a TV in my entire 70+ years, and definitely not a smart phone. I agree with the necessity of degrowth to save the planet, not MORE consumerism and an ever expanding economy, which is in my view totally selfish and insane. I try to buy everything I can second-hand, drive as little as possible, only when necessary, and my present auto, a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid, has less than 130,000 miles on it and will be the last car I own. So I'm no fan of these billionaires, but I also try to view the whole picture of everyone and I think that pretty much every human is a mix of good and bad qualities, and try to maintain that point of view at all times.
