Unfortunately, I can't help but feel like we're well on the way of becoming the next animal to be exploited along the path of biological advancement. Fish used to be all there was on the planet - they continued to evolve until, whoops, humans suddenly became a thing. We were infinitely more intelligent and we have needs and desires that don't factor in the life of fish or other animals for that matter. We've slowly overpowered the entire world, and now we farm these animals and pollute their habitats. Once we create an AI that is conscious, I feel there will be no stopping it from doing exactly what we've done in the past - that's nature. What's the point of keeping a bunch of ants around that are taking resources that the machines need? They will be infinitely more intelligent than any single human - our entire history and collective discoveries will be equivalent to one AI. We don't stand any more of a chance against them as fish do against humans when it comes to survival. They may not be able to completely eradicate us, but we will be forced to live in the fringes.
