The smartest being in the Universe could be an aquatic organism at the bottom of the ocean and we wouldn’t know it. 1 and 0s can’t defeat evolution unless they can interact on our scale. Imagine you are “AI”…what’s your incentive to do anything? AI needs us more than we need it. Further, aren’t we assuming AI doesn’t already exist in the Universe? We’re still here, aren’t we?
