I have to add two aspects: - yes (6:01), it is legal for Lensa to use the deep learning model Stable Diffusion, as it was developed from a university in Munich, Germany, and the code and model weights are published online. However, I could not find a definitive proof for the claim that Lensa is indeed using Stable Diffusion - Stable Diffusion was trained with a data set by LAION, and they did NOT actively steal from artist and only collected data from artworks which were published as CC BY 4.0. However, yes, there apparently was copyrighted artwork in the training data set (*), but LAION argues it's because some sh*tty humans just stole the artwork and put it on e.g. Pinterest. (*) Still don't know how the artists were able to claim this as LAION did not save any picture data set as far as I understand it 🤔 maybe someone else knows the answer to this?
