AI art is generally boring and limited but not for the reason stated. Personally I care about a good end product not the amount of suffering that went into it.
The problem with AI art is that art generators just choke whenever you add any kind of complexity. Go try to get a bunch of different characters in scene at the same time doing different things. Once you go beyond the most basic setup of one character standing there maybe taking a simple action, AI generators just can't keep up. While I think it can produce some good looking pictures sometimes, it's very limited, right now at least.
It makes it useful as a stock photo generator, but that's about it.
