You assume that AI will have the same kind of consciousness a human would have. That's like trying to say plant feel the same pain human feels. It would be best if you didn't get into the habit of using human standards to measure something that is entirely different from a human.
New standards will need to be in place when you're trying to discover something new. Thinking outside the box is basically the key to this.
