Okay, I’ll be the devil’s advocate, here (take with a grain of salt please I love human artists) There are ways to use AI more creatively, than just generating prompts. I play around with AI recreationally for fun inspiration, and sometimes I’ll spend hours perfecting an image. With a tool like Midjourney, for example, you can select sections of a picture to regenerate with new prompt words, so you can basically go detail by detail, refining aspect like hands, or backgrounds, or clothes, or expressions, or colors, until you get something that looks realistic, has depth, personality, and completely fits the image you had in your head. You can also merge images, so you could actually use it to modify your own art, or put characters that you drew into different poses. Everyone says AI art is hollow and soulless, and… they’re right. At least, without a human assistant, it’s hollow and soulless. But when I spend hours or sometimes days editing, regenerating, coming up with prompt word after prompt word to finally really get an image that I’m like THIS. THIS IS THE IMAGE THAT WAS IN MY HEAD. It’s so satisfying, and it feels like it’s mine, because I spent so much time narrowing it down and shaping it. It develops detail and soul. Now, I do this for fun. It stimulates my creativity. As an artist myself, though, I highly value human artists and it often disappoints me to see the empty AI imitations that replace them. But I don’t hate AI as a concept, and I won’t say that it can’t be used creatively. I often will use it for references, again after tweaking and poking at an image for a bit to ensure accuracy. It can be a helpful tool. I think it’s just a matter of knowing how to utilize it in intelligent, creative and ethical ways.
