The problem behind them is that they don’t understand what art is. If something just looks good, that is not art. True art is from the ability to see into what the creator envisioned. Cubism didn’t make Picasso famous because he could draw anime butts in photorealistic detail, it was because it was the art form which allowed him to express himself. The ability to perceive every stroke and be able to ponder the intentions of the artist is what makes something art. You don’t go to a museum to look at a work of art and think that it looks good, you go so you can learn more about the hardships and inspiration behind the creator. You cannot do that with AI. A stroke wasn’t put there meaningfully, it’s there because there is a high probability of it being there. A six-year-old’s sketch can be art, a painting doesn’t have to be art: anything which can be altered again and again and again with intent can be art: photography, gardening, even building in Minecraft, all of these can be art. A group of pixels arranged ‘randomly’ cannot, it cannot be, no intent is there, until there is passion behind it, it will always be random, and never art. This is how art inspires. This is how art motivates. This is how art empowers. Art has given us a great gift, now we must protect it.
