The generative AI genie is already out of the bottle. Unless we develop a way to verify that any given creative work was made by a human without the use of AI, there is no practical way of putting it back. While we may be able to push major AI companies to pay for training data, individual users are already creating finetunes on consumer hardware that use open-source base models. At best, we might create a scenario where the big guys have to play by the rules while the small guys are able to carry on ignoring them. After all, how would anyone know? Unless we demand that creatives show their process and prove that they put in the manual work, nobody will ever be able to trust them.
