LLMs simply predict things that a human might say, and they have a whole lot more material to work from than the average human. No matter how much I read, I won't ever be able to compete with LLMs in terms of raw knowledge. So when you ask an LLM to do something creative, it draws from its 'knowledge' of what creative humans might say.
