AI can be an effective tool if used correctly. Think of fire. I think we can assume some cavemen thought the first guy that brought fire into the cave was a total moron. And yeah, fire can be very destructive if not used properly.
That being said, I think it's more important to look at the result this has in these people's lives than exactly what they did to get those results (at least if it improves their lives).
This could become one of two things (depending on who you are): Either just another chapter in the spirituality book (like using crystals to not have panic attacks) or the gateway to psychosis (which very often happens in people already susceptible to it... these people should probably treat AI as epileptics treat flashing strobe lights...)
