There is an ulterior false dichotomy in the parallel between painting-photography and artists-a.i. : a camera is a tool to be used, while the a.i. aims to replace both the tool and the user. That's a key difference!
There's also another consequence of this: an a.i. can replace thousands of people at once for a single task. There will never be a nedd for as many "ai engineers" as there is of artists. This doesn't scale well.
