I think as a creative person the AI stuff or the images are for me really cliched. It's fucking hard to be really original (because it doesn't come from what's come before or what's somebody has done). So I see these silly animated Van Goghs or something and everybody saying it's "art" without having any understanding of art. The slop is real and it makes people money. When Jackson Pollock had the idea to drip paint on his canvas that was a revolutionary moment. It was linked in with sand paintings he'd seen done by native American Indians and ideas about the unconscious, surrealism and so on. You can't get to something really interesting by stealing ideas. If you think that new ideas will just emerge from copying and merging things together that's wrong. Maybe this will make us appreciate real human craft more. It could usher in a paradoxical demand for say old skills like typography. Industry has already been using stock photos but that's not like the vision of say a Magnum photographer. A really good graphic designer is going to design something nobody guessed (the Apple logo) for example. I had some AI through a phone company and it was almost as useless as the call centre guy in India.
