To be clear, the opting out and in issue is really just a smokescreen, LAION 5-B has already combed the internet for billions of images. DeviantArt had no hand in what the researches that built Laion 5-B did, and putting in HTML tags for 'no ai' won't stop these researchers from continuining to do so in the future unless they start to or are forced to, adhere to ethnical standards.
The only good solution is for DeviantArt to pause DreamUp and start to commit to using an ethical, open source AI database that either it can build by allowing its community to opt-in or by other means. Likewise it would be good if DeviantArt started to work on controls for people flooding their site with AI generated artwork or banning to the best of their ability the content all together.
