I think this is an understanding and possibly a definition issue. AI can't choose what it thinks about it doesn't have consciousness nor agency. I Guess you could say sentient in that it is self aware. This is one that may flip the tables (exception to the rule) where religious dogma saves people from believing this and atheists think like Descartes.
