That's not the controversy. The controversy is that these tools are owned by a corporation and that corporation doesn't pay you if it generated a work of AI art using your style...using your actual images combobulated into new images. And the main part of the controversy is that the corporations in question would not be able to make AI art like yours if they hadn't stolen your images in the first place.
Moving on to more serious things. What is stopping these same corporations from duplicating anything else we create. And the controversy being that they won't pay us anything if they create derivative work based on our work. That's what is controversial.
