But most "experts" say it's probably not going to happen unless we stop all humans from driving totally because the cars can do it if everyone does what they're supposed to do, but humans don't. Plus Lidar is needed but too expensive for cars ($40,000 per unit Elon said). Also, all the cars will need to talk to each other, or a giant Traffic AI needs to coordinate all the cars (like the cars in "I, Robot"), then intersections will look like "car near miss ballet" as cars speed through from all directions not even slowing down but never crashing. Think of the way drone swarms work, but with cars.
They say we're more likely to get "flying cars" i.e. Westworld drone taxis before we get self driving cars. These are not my thoughts, just "expert's" opinions.
