"I don't understand copyright. I don't understand machine learning. Nevertheless, I don't like it. Therefore, it's bad." Everyone who is throwing a fit over AI doesn't understand any of it and bases all of their opinions on superficial impressions, ignorance, and subjective reasoning. Why am I not surprised? This is the internet, after all. AI art is a machine learning model that was originally object recognition AI for autonomous cars. Yes, this software came from a car being able to tell a bus apart from a baby being able to identify variations of those objects they have never seen before. AI art reverses this process. To say that AI art is reliant on human art is like saying a human being who has been locked inside a dark room their entire life is dependent on human support. It is ridiculous to insinuate that letting the AI view the millions of images that are posted in the clear for ANYONE TO SEE is tantamount to stealing, theft, plagiarism, or what-have-you. That's like accusing human beings of "stealing" if they painted a landscape they found on a nature hike. If you're that threatened by an AI being able to see and learn from your art just the same as anyone using Google can, you should just stop publishing your work and give up art altogether. People are all worked up because they fear for their jobs, so they're grasping at straws in an attempt to convince the world that AI art is an evil thief who is takin er jerbs! Derka der!!! People freaked out in the EXACT SAME WAY with the EXACT SAME ARGUMENTS against CAMERAS when they became something the average person could own. Did that destroy the ability for artists to make a living?!? HELL NOO!!! People having a fit about AI are acting like a bunch of entitled children clutching their pearls, and you all need to grow up.
