OpenAI is not profitable. But with the release of DeepSeek, generative AI can be run on a 7W computer (~$0.33/mo) in your home, rather than paying OpenAI a ton of money to run it on 4090 cluster on AWS.
I mainly use AI Image generation for generating memes, so AI poisoning typically just makes the memes funnier. The only other thing I use it for is placeholders before replacing it with real art, or for things I literally don't care about quality, like album art for DRM free albums.
