The "problem" posed by AI is symptomatic of something much deeper: I think the fundamental _problem_ is that most people do not yet understand that we humans have become a new species during the last 400 to 500 years. What has changed is that the advent of modern scientific method (SM) has radically changed the scope and amount of reliable information about the universe which is not available to us. IE in the pre scientific universe our ancestors were confined to developing beliefs and knowledge based only on information which could be derived from use of our naked human senses. SM has extended the range of information we can access smallwards by 15 or so orders of magnitude - ie down to the size of atomic nuclei. The range of information available bigwards is even greater I think - I mean it is heading towards 13.8 billion light years! Unfortunately a great deal - if not most! - of the thinking of people on Earth is still in terms of ideas from the pre scientific universe. This is really dysfunctional because the power to change the world which has come from the application of SM means we have become a planet sized force of nature and yet our societies are still being dominated by patriarchy, authoritarianism, and capitalism which evolved to be the default social forms in a world dominated by scarcity, or at least the fear of it. The great challenge which confronts us now is to show each other how our continued survival and thriving as human beings on this planet depends on us working together and helping each other honestly, ethically and consistently irrespective of surface differences based on sex/gender, skin colour, ethnicity, apparent wealth, religious inclination, or whatever. Successful improvements in science, democracy (and/or social well-being), and our species' survivability depend on us reestablishing an understanding on how we depend _absolutely_ in knowing and sharing with one another the truth about each situation we are in.
