I actually think it's a good thing if trucks become automated. Fact: truck driving is actually, statistically speaking, one of the most dangerous professions because of the relatively high risk of accidents. And working long nights in a position where you're more or less locked in the same position for hours is really bad for your health. And this for a crappy pay. I understand that it's a tragedy for everyone at risk of losing their livelihood, but maybe it's a good thing if a machine could do this job. The problem, as I see it, is that nothing will be done to help these drivers to get new, better jobs, and that this gor many people is a job by necessity, not by choice.
