Toyota is largest automaker in the world for decades and they have been using adaptive cruise control and very recently self driving tech in some of the Lexus models but they have not implemented it largely and their adaptive cruise control doesn’t stay autonomous for more than 15-30 seconds. The reason they are not doing on large scale due to the fact that LiDAR and ultrasonic sensors they use in the tech. This makes car very expensive and hurts bottom line. During the rise of pandemic Elon musk decided to remove all the sensors due to the chip shortage and decided to rely solely on cameras. This is what’s failing in this Tesla. Even one life is a lot when it comes to the tech failure.
