I think the book Superintelligence covered another part of this we often skip over. At the point AI reaches general intelligence \ self awareness, AI's perception of humans would be similar to human's perception of ants. We're aware ants exist, but most of us aren''t overly concerned with anything the ants have to say, or worried what they are doing right this moment as long as they stay out of the house. The ants have no perception at all of humans and no comprehension at all of what humans are doing or thinking.
